{"id":9574,"date":"2025-12-18T19:54:36","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T19:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=9574"},"modified":"2025-12-18T19:54:36","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T19:54:36","slug":"senate-confirms-mahmood-yakubu-fani-kayode-omokri-others-as-ambassadors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/12\/18\/senate-confirms-mahmood-yakubu-fani-kayode-omokri-others-as-ambassadors\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Confirms Mahmood Yakubu, Fani-Kayode, Omokri, Others As Ambassadors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent <\/p>\n<p>The Senate, on Thursday at plenary confirmed all 65 nominees for career and non-career ambassadorial positions forwarded to it a fortnight ago by President Bola Tinubu. <\/p>\n<p>Among those confirmed for non-career ambassadorial appointments are a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu; former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode; former presidential aide, Reno Omokri; and Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Jimoh Ibrahim.<\/p>\n<p>Others are a former governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; former governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu; former sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas; former deputy governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro; widow of the late former governor of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi; former Ekiti State First Lady, Angela Adebayo; former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazzau; former Akwa Ibom Senator, Ita Enang; and former Adamawa Senator, Grace Bent.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those confirmed for career ambassadorial appointments are Nwaobiala Chukwuemeka, Ahmed Sulu-Gambari, Ramat Omobolanle, Shaga Shamah, Ruben Samuel, Sallahu Mohammed, Ibrahim Danlami, Adeola-Ibrahim Mopelola, Akande Adekola, Arewa Esther, and Danladi Nyaku.<\/p>\n<p>Before this, the president had forwarded three nominees, covering both career and non-career positions who were confirmed by the Senate on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Following their confirmation, the nominees will be sworn in by the president and subsequently deployed to represent Nigeria in their respective countries of assignment.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate made the approval following the  consideration of a report by its Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Sani Bello.<\/p>\n<p>After presenting the report of the Committee for consideration by the lawmakers during plenary, the recommendations were then considered and adopted.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s however, pertinent to note that Senator Sahabi Yau of Zamfara State, raised an observation, drawing the attention of his colleagues to the fact that there was no nominee from Zamfara State on the list.<\/p>\n<p>While making his complaints known to the Chamber, Yau urged the President of the Senate to bring the omission to the notice of President Bola Tinubu. <\/p>\n<p>Responding to the observation, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio,  acknowledged the concern, explaining that the list as forwarded to the Chamber for approval was not exhaustive.<\/p>\n<p>He assured lawmakers that he would raise the matter with the President, saying that additional ambassadorial nominations were being expected and that Zamfara State would be represented. <\/p>\n<p>President Bola Tinubu had on December 4 forwarded a request to the Red Chamber for the confirmation of 65 ambassadorial nominees, comprising 34 career ambassadors and 31 non-career ambassadors and high commissioners.<\/p>\n<p>In accordance with parliamentary tradition, the lists were referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs to conduct the screening process and report back to the Chamber.<\/p>\n<p>The list of 65 nominees raised the total number of ambassadorial candidates before the Senate to 68, as three nominees\u2014 Kayode Are, Aminu Dalhatu, and Ayodele Oke\u2014 had already been screened and confirmed by the Senate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent The Senate, on Thursday at plenary confirmed all 65 nominees for career and non-career ambassadorial positions forwarded to it a fortnight ago by President Bola Tinubu.
