The Niger State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,(NDLEA) has secured the conviction of over one hundred drug offenders from January to November 2025.<\/p>\n
Similarly,about one, thousand five hundred and fifty seven tons of Indian hemp (cannabis sativa) have been intercepted across the state from January to November 2025.<\/p>\n
The State Commander of the Agency in Niger State Alhaji Shehu Numau Gwadabawa who stated this in an interview with journalists in his office at the Agency\u2019s headquarters in Minna, disclosed that the convicted drug offenders were in possession of large quantities of Indian hemp and other prohibited drugs.<\/p>\n
He said the command,in its aggressive onslaught against drug peddlers and users carried out a series of raids on some identified black spots where Indian hemp is being sold and consumed in Minna,and its surrounding within the last one year.<\/p>\n
According to the state commander of the agency,the arrest and prosecution of the already convicted drug offenders was successful through the support of members of the public that provide useful intelligence to the command on the activities of some drug dealers in their midst.<\/p>\n
He noted that the support and cooperation received from members of the public and community leaders have yielded the needed result which aided the operatives of the command to effect the arrest, prosecution and the conviction of the drug offenders.<\/p>\n
He disclosed that the command has launched offensive raids of black spots in Minna and its surrounding where the Indian hemp and other illicit drugs are being consumed adding that the raids of these black spots was identified which necessitated the raids.<\/p>\n
During the raids, according to the state Commander of the Agency, substantial numbers of youths were arrested with large quantities of Indian hemp and other illicit substances believed to be hard drugs.<\/p>\n
Commander Shehu Gwadabawa opined that the fight against sales and consumption of illicit drugs will be curtailed to the barest level with the collective support and synergy with critical stakeholders and community leaders through the provision of useful and vital information to the agency on the activities of drug dealers in their midst.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the provision of such information to the command, I’m assuring you,my operatives will swiftly go after these barons and we will get them arrested.<\/p>\n
\u201c Not only arresting them but to find them to be in possession of the exhibit to serve as evidence that will be used for their prosecution to secure their conviction in court.<\/p>\n
\u201c Without such evidence and exhibits,there is nothing the agency will use as evidence in court to secure their conviction. Most of the convictions we secured were found with exhibit and the evidence was used to secure their conviction in court\u201d he told journalists.<\/p>\n
He warned parents and guardians to always monitor the friends and the pairs group their children and wards kept to avoid engaging in the consumption of drugs that, according to the State Commander of the NDLEA will take them out of being arrested.<\/p>\n
\u201c The moment you notice unusual behavior from your child,it is better for you to bring him to the counseling unit of the agency. Counselling is cheaper than rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
\u201c My warning to parents and guardians is that they should know the friends and peers of their children so that they would not fall into the drug and Indian hemp group.
