Attacks on troops in Bornu,Yobe is unacceptable, Security consultant tells FG …..calls for review of strategy, fish put moles

By David Owei, Bayelsa
A Security Consultant and Risk Management Expert, Veteran James Sunday has described as “disturbing and unacceptable” the recent cases of suspected Book Haram militants military points and Barack’s in Borno,Yobe States and carting away Billions of Naira worth of fighting equipments meant for fight against insurgence.
According to Veteran James Sunday, the Nigerian Military and the State should embark on a close review of tactics and strategies review of the strategy adopted, weaponry in use, morale of troops, management of the troops, funding and welfare, infiltration by fifth columnists, financiers,Sympathisers and collaborators with the terrorists, bandits, Militant groups, insurgents etc
The Security Consultant and Risk Management Expert, Veteran James Sunday, in a statement titled “Civilian Joint Task Force/ Betrayals: Evolving Tactics Used by Militants and Co- conspiracy to Undermine Military Operations” argued that from 2009 till date, running Sixteen (16) years the North East of Nigeria has been the epicentre of insurgency, terrorist occupation of spaces around the Lake Chad, Monguno,Kala Balge, Dikwa, Koibe,Gamboru Ngala, Marte, Izge, Gwoza,Damboa,Baga, Konduga,Mallam Fatori, Gajiram,Rann in Borno, part of Adamawa and in Yobe areas like Buni Yadi, Maino, Beneshek, auno,Geidam to disperse the community, abduct the youths, women and men, forcing the women into marriage and conscripting the able men into foot soldiers and women into suicide bombers.”
“Now it is the members of the Civilian Joint Task Force drawn from among the repentant Boko Haram members, locals with the intention of upscaling local intelligence and exploring local knowledge of the routes and terrains that are turning to be mole planted in the midst of the troops, they direct and inform the terrorists on when to attack, which route to ambush, time to attack among others as witnessed in Buni Gari in Yobe State.”
“In Marte, Izge and Damboa at different times in Borno State, leading to the carting away of several Military platforms, equipments,Vehicles, Arms and Ammunitions, and other logistics.”
He pointed out that the Nation cannot continue to watch Non State Actors overrunning it’s forces and carting away Billions of Naira worth of fighting equipments meant for the Military, thereby equipping them against the forces and the state.
“This is a disturbing and unacceptable development that must be checked. The following observations will guide and help reduce re- occurrence and collateral damages as a result of conscripting Civilian JTF in patrol operations, surveillance and when the troops are out to attack the enemies of the state, reason is simple, some of the CJTF members were repentant Boko Haram members granted state pardon after being captured or they circumstantially surrendered to the troops, some are send as moles planted, they are spies and agents of destabilization of the troops.”
“They use the platform of CJTF to understudy the operational pattern adopted by the troops, the weapon type at the disposal of the troops, intercept signals for communication to the enemies, tracking the troops movement and routes of operation for ambush by the terrorists, they operate as gun runners, suppliers of food, fuel and other logistics to the terrorist using the advantage of the local knowledge, familiar terrain and relationship with the terror groups to move freely in the camps and through the trouble areas.”
“The military must debrief long serving personnel and demobilise them,re- engaging them in a new set up related to the battle, tapping from their experiences and not allowing them to be idle,to avoid conspiracy and frustration, which if allowed lead many to gun running and returning to the enemies camp as trainers and foot soldiers, which is more dangerous.”
“Need for proper funding and better welfare package for all operatives at the battlefield as an incentive to encourage them and boost morale.”
“Effective troop management and compassionate relationship between commanders and the troops they are leading without giving room to dishonest practice, fraud, cheating and abuse of office as commanders.”
“Adequate medical services at the battlefield and intermittent leave pass to avoid fatigue and boredom, proper monitoring while on leave. Need to establish standard of life for operatives,by ensuring that personnel drafted to the Frontline are monitored for luxurious lifestyles, reckless spendings, illegitimate money transfers and acquisition of properties beyond their legitimate earnings and status, for modest and standard lifestyle commensurate to their ranks and files.”
“The country must seek to honour war veterans and anyone that has participated in any operation to secure the sovereignty and integrity of the nation, rewarding them accordingly and honouring them as Patriots.Special Funds to be dedicated to cater for the welfare of veterans in all the services.”

FG slams Senator Natasha with Criminal defamation charges against Akpabio, Bello

The Federal Government has formally filed criminal charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for allegedly making damaging allegations against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio
FG’s suit which was filed by Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi hinges on three courts criminal charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for allegedly making damaging allegations against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello.

Former Governor Yahaya Bello
Source within the office of the Attorney General revealed that the suit was filed under Charge No. CR/1277/25 at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, before Honourable Justice C. N. Oji, the three-count charge was brought by the Department of Public Prosecutions on behalf of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation.
In a statement that was made available to newsmen in Abuja Thursday,”The government is accusing Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of making imputations intended to harm reputations, contrary to Section 391 of the Penal Code Law and punishable under Section 392 of the same law.
“The first count centers on a televised interview granted by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan on Channels Television’s political programme, “Politics Today”, aired on April 3, 2025.
“In the interview, the Senator accused the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, of plotting her assassination in collaboration with former Governor Yahaya Bello.”
Responding to a question from anchor Seun Okinbaloye, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated: “It was part of the meeting, the discussions that Akpabio had with Yahaya Bello that night, ehm… to eliminate me.”
She further implied that the withdrawal of her official security details by the Senate upon her suspension was a deliberate plot to make her “vulnerable to attacks,” suggesting an orchestrated attempt on her life.
Prosecutors argued that these public statements were made with knowledge or reason to believe they would damage Senator Akpabio’s reputation.
Continuing,”The second count mirrors the first, on the imputation against Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State.
“Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan told the same television audience that a plan to assassinate her was not to be carried out in Abuja, but in Kogi State, under Bello’s watch.
In her words: “A week and a few days later when [Akpabio] met with [Bello], he then emphasized that I should be killed… I delayed going home because I had to put some measures on ground.”
“She claimed to have reported the threats to the Inspector General of Police and made efforts to inform security operatives.”
The prosecution contends that these allegations, made on national television, not only tarnished the character of Yahaya Bello, but also presented a grave national security concern, especially given the implications of political violence.
In a third charge, “the Federal Government alleges that on March 27, 2025, during a telephone conversation with one Sandra C. Duru, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan made a horrifying claim implicating Senate President Akpabio in an alleged killing and organ harvesting.”
According to court documents, she stated:“There was this girl that was killed, what’s her name, umm… Iniobong Umoren… her organs were actually used for [Akpabio’s] wife, because the wife was really ill three years ago…”
This claim, “referencing a real-life murder case that once shocked the nation, is now being legally framed as a malicious and unsubstantiated attack on Senator Akpabio’s character, capable of inciting public outrage and diminishing public confidence in the leadership of the National Assembly.”
The government maintains that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan acted recklessly and with malicious intent, abusing her public platform to spread defamatory and inflammatory statements that have far-reaching consequences for national peace, security, and democratic integrity.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was not in court as she refused service from bailiffs. Justice Orji, however, ordered that efforts should not be spared in ensuring that she is served before the next adjourned date.
