Truck crushes Okada rider to death in Ikorodu, Lagos By Our Reporter

Tragedy has occurred as a commercial motorcyclist popularly referred to as Okada rider has lost his life in the early hours of Sunday along the Sabo Onimalu corridor, inward Itamaga, in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State.
The rider who was navigating at an uncontrollably speed, collided with a fully loaded articulated truck transporting flour.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA made this known in a release made available to newsmen.
Taofiq said, “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) deeply regrets to report a grievous lone road traffic fatality which transpired in the early hours of today along the Sabo Onimalu corridor, inward Itamaga, in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State. The harrowing incident involved a commercial motorcyclist who, while reportedly navigating at an uncontrollably high velocity, tragically collided with a fully loaded articulated truck transporting flour.
“Preliminary findings from an immediate on-site investigation suggest that the motorcyclist suffered a sudden and catastrophic brake malfunction, rendering him incapable of regaining vehicular control. As a result, he forcefully rammed into the rear of the moving trailer, culminating in instantaneous fatality.”
He added, “LASTMA Officers, who arrived promptly as the first emergency responders, took swift and decisive action to manage the ensuing chaos and secure the accident scene.
During this intervention, it was discovered that the driver of the articulated vehicle had fled the location in a bid to evade responsibility. Demonstrating commendable professionalism and presence of mind, LASTMA personnel embarked on a rapid pursuit, successfully apprehending the absconding driver.
LASTMA personnel immediately transferred the arrested driver to the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Shagamu Road Division, Ikorodu, for further investigation and potential prosecution under the relevant traffic and criminal statutes.
The statement further stated, “The mangled remains of the deceased motorcyclist were tragically found trapped beneath the truck. With clinical precision and due sensitivity, LASTMA officials extricated and evacuated the corpse. The body was thereafter handed over to members of his family who rushed to the accident scene after receiving phone calls from his other motorcyclists.
In a solemn response to the tragic event, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, conveyed his profound condolences to the family of the deceased. He invoked divine comfort and strength for them in this moment of irrevocable loss and emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance on the part of road users.
Mr. Bakare-Oki further appealed to the leadership of commercial motorcycle operators’ unions across the State, urging them to intensify sensitization campaigns among their members, emphasizing the imperatives of vehicular integrity, adherence to safety protocols, and unwavering compliance with traffic regulations.
He reiterated the Lagos State Government’s policy on the restricted movement of commercial motorcycles along some corridors, highways and bridges, urging total conformity in the overriding interest of public safety and order.
“It is of utmost urgency that operators of commercial motorcycles assume greater responsibility by subjecting their bikes to routine mechanical checks—especially essential components such as brakes. The loss of life resulting from such preventable mechanical failures is both regrettable and unacceptable,” Mr. Bakare-Oki stated with gravity.
The General Manager enjoined the general public, particularly road users, to remain collaborative with LASTMA by reporting all traffic-related emergencies, infractions, or instances of personnel misbehavior via the Authority’s dedicated toll-free hotline: 0810000527862.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority reaffirms its unyielding commitment to the preservation of lives and the promotion of orderly conduct across the metropolis. Road users are urged to imbibe a culture of caution, respect for traffic laws, and civic responsibility at all times.

2nd Phase Leaders Complete Training on Leadership and Mediation – Gen. Elaye Lauds Otuaro’s Visionary Drive

The 2nd Phase Camp Leaders’ training on “Leadership, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation”, sponsored by the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has successfully come to a close Friday on a commendable note.
The intensive leadership-building initiative, held under the distinguished leadership of the Administrator of the PAP, High Chief Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, aimed to equip leaders with practical skills in peacebuilding, mediation, and conflict resolution—critical tools for sustaining peace in the Niger Delta region.
Reacting to the successful completion of the programme, General Elaye ThankGod Dollar Slaboh, National Chairman of the Third Phase Presidential Amnesty Programme, alongside his national leadership, congratulated the participants for their commitment and active engagement throughout the training.
General Elaye commended Dr. Otuaro for his visionary leadership and strategic direction, which is rapidly changing the dynamics of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, shifting it towards human capital development and long-term peace.
He emphasized that such initiatives are essential for reinforcing grassroots leadership and consolidating the peace already being enjoyed in the region.

Minna Lack of Sensitisation responsible for transporting small arms and light weapons to criminal gangs-Enanch and offi officials

The Zonal Director, North Central, National Centre for Small Arms and Light Weapons Mr Abdul Adamu Enenche made the submission during a visit to the Niger State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ in Minna.
Of recent, many Nigerians have been apprehended with cache of arms and ammunitions meant for delivery to bandits, kidnappers and other criminals.
This has raised questions as to why some individuals will willingly allow themselves to be used as couriers of illegal weapons to criminals.
The Zonal Director, National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, Mr Abdul Adamu Enenche said lack sensitisation on dangers of such acts and intelligence from people are contributing to the spread of arms.
He observed that porous or poorly managed borders and activities of local fabricators who manufacture guns are other sources of weapons proliferation that the Centre is trying to address.
Mr Adamu Enenche who solicited the support of members of the NUJ to enable the Centre to achieve its objectives, promised to synergize with other sister agencies.
The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu expressed optimism that there would be great reduction of criminal activities once the issue of small arms are resolved.
Comrade Nmodu urged the Centre to be open for collaboration with the Union especially in the area of training members on it’s activities.
Across section of members of the Union who spoke on the occasion stressed the need for the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons to deploy officers of the Centre to the grassroots for easy intelligence gathering.
