AKSACA flags-off Sensitization Against HIV prevalence in A’Ibom …..Tasks religious leaders on moral teaching as Gov Eno kicks against new trend

The Akwa Ibom State Agency on the Control of Aid, AKSACA has taken step to curtail the spread of HIV and Aids in Akwa Ibom State with flagged-off of sensitization campaign among religious organizations in the state.
The Head of the Agency,Dr Enobong Akpan said that the sensitization campaign flagged off at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Uyo Parish on Sunday will be taken round the State in partnership with supporting partners, aimed at eradicating the menace which is affecting the top majority of young people in the state.
He tasked religious leaders to preach morality as a mean of inculcating abstinence, faithfulness to partner, use of condom, drugs abuse abstinence, amongst other things.
The exercise he said is inline with the state Government Arise Agenda program on health and wellness of the people of Akwa Ibom, as the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno is seriously frowning on the spate of prevelent of the infection among young people in the state according to report.
The campaign is supported by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN which was represented by Bishop Prince Antia, Chairman Religious Leaders Network on HIV/AID, the state Ministry of Health, Information, Women Affairs, the Media, and Dr Etok Antia, Director of Public Health who represented the Commissioner for Health, Ministry of Youth Development and People Living with HIV/AID
Receiving the delegation, Rev Uwem Etukakpan laud initiative of AKSACA and for choosing Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Uyo Parish to flagged off the sensitization meant for the whole state.
Prayers were offered to members of the team to carryout a successful sensitization campaign in the state against the silent killer of young and old people in the society called HIV.
Earlier in his sermon at the service , on the topic Sanctified for the masters service, the officiating minister Rev Uwem Etukakpan, said God can used anything but will not used everything, as everything is at his disposal to do his work.
He emphasized that christians are not the master, by so knowing, they should work inline with the masters plan, by pleasing God and to achieved this, christians must work together in unity to serve God better.
On prevention, Emem Nseobong who talked about transmission from mother to unborn child, said HIV can be prevented via counciling, access to drugs, adherence to anti retofiral drugs, antenatal care, and administration of anti body drugs under 75 hours to new born child of an infected mother, and all the care and medicals are free across Akwa Ibom.
The Agency used the sensitization to offer free medical exercise to members of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria in the area of High Blood Pressure, HIV Test, TB Test and Sugar level test
Accordingly, the agency is saddled with the vision and responsibility to ensure that the society is without new HIV infections, where the infected and affected are provided with comprehensive treatment and support services, is the vision of AKSACA which is inline with the Arise Agenda of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno

The Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council (OBYC) Worldwide has condemned the planned protest over the legal dispute involving Azikel Group President, Dr. Azibapu Godbless Eruani, CFR, and Mr. Kariyai Daukoru, describing the action as unnecessary while the matter remains before a competent court.
OBYC, in a statement issued on Saturday and made available to newsmen, urged Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone Chairman, Comrade Peres Ineife, to suspend the proposed protest and allow the judicial process to run its course.
It also appealed to the newly elected IYC Worldwide President, Dr. Doubra Collins Okotete, to promote dialogue and reconciliation among the parties involved in the Aviation Training initiative.
OBYC maintained that Dr. Eruani’s aviation training initiative was a philanthropic programme designed to empower Bayelsa youths and rejected allegations that he intended to victimise anyone.
The Council further called on Ijaw youths, political leaders and stakeholders to exercise restraint, respect the rule of law, and avoid actions capable of undermining the judiciary or disrupting peace.

Two Fishermen Feared Dead ln Bayelsa Ocean

Two fishermen have been declared missing after their boat capsized off the coast of Opu-Okumbiri in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
It was gathered that the missing fishermen were identified as Elder Sunday Sample Timothy and his assistant, Mr. Avarada.
According to a source, Chief Saturday Akimi-Omunhuo, a community leader, the two men left for a fishing expedition at about 1:00 a.m. on Friday when the outboard engine of their fishing boat reportedly developed a fault while they were far out at sea.
Chief Akimi-Omunhuo said a rescue boat towed the disabled vessel toward the continental shelf and the Atlantic coastline. However, as they approached the shore, strong waves reportedly capsized the faulty boat, throwing the two fishermen into the water.
He narrated that the rescue boat and those aboard reached the shore safely, but the two fishermen have remained missing.
Community members were said to immediately launch a search operation along the coastline and surrounding waters. The search team later recovered the fishermen’s fishing gear, but there was no sign of the missing men as of the time of filing this report.
Chief Akimi-Omunhuo described the incident as tragic, noting that similar accidents have occurred over the years in the coastal communities.
He appealed to the Brass Local Government Council, the Bayelsa State Government, the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to provide improved safety equipment, weather monitoring systems and other support for fishing communities whose livelihoods depend on the sea.
“Our people depend on fishing for survival. We need better safety measures to reduce the loss of lives on our waterways,” he said.
Search efforts for the two missing fishermen were still ongoing at the time of this report.
Authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
