Ahead of the 2027 general election, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has unanimously adopted  the party’s founder, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso as sole candidate for 2027 election.
The party made this disclosure at its National Executive Committee NEC) held at Bolingo Hotel Abuja on Thursday.
Making this declaration at the NEC meeting, the party’s National Chairman, Dr Ajuji Ahmed said the party is watching with keen interest the political permutation in virtually all the political parties in preparation for 2027 general election.
According to Dr. Ahmed,”Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Ph.D, our visionary Leader, a former
Governor of the State, former Minister of Defence, for diplomat, and former Presidential Candidate of our great party in the 2023, and
Insha Allah, the next presidential candidate of our party in 2027. A
man of indefatigable endeavour with stupendous political sagacity, Engr. Kwankwaso’s leadership has made NNPP stand out as the
pillar of party politics in Nigeria.
“We acknowledge with gratitude the pivotal role he is playing in transforming NNPP to a formidable political party in the country. We salute his courage, resilience, and tenacity in making the Party attractive to Nigerians yearning for a better New Nigeria. Indeed, New Nigeria is only possible with NNPP.”
On the ongoing cross-carpeting  and re-allighment of politicisians from both the  ruling and opposition parties ahead of 2027, Dr. Ahmed NNPP is focused and not in a hurry to join any  coalition.
“At this juncture, I must state that the pressure facing us as a Party
over the direction that our Party would take leading up to 2027 has been enormous. I must thank all those who are working assiduously to reach out to and hold discussions with us in this regard.
” We thank all manner of persons, groups, organizations for the good work they have put in. Of particular interest in this regard are members of our Party in the diaspora (all who have a genuine interest in moving our country forward) for their interest and even a measure of anxiety in our posture and decisions leading up to 2027.
“I am particularly flattered by inquiries coming to us from various interested international organisations and groups in this regard. What is clear to
me, however, is that we are beginning to have a clearer view of the future, but we will have to take a bit more time before we take the
final necessary decisions. “
On the National Executive Committee meeting, he said that NEC members, we as a Party, must justify the confidence our fellow compatriots repose in us.
“That is why this NEC meeting is important as the outcome will reassure all citizens of Nigeria that we are serious, and we are here to stay. We will meticulously deliberate on our forthcoming congresses and national convention, review the recent bye-elections, strategize on mass
mobilization and registration of new members into the Party,
deliberate on crucial issues regarding constitutional amendment been contemplated by the National Assembly in the ongoing Constitution and Electoral Act amendments.”
The party urged its members in particular and Nigerians in general to take advantage of the ongoing continuous voter registration by INEC and obtain their permanent voter cards,” bearing in mind that your vote is your voice and power to elect credible leaders who will meet the needs and aspirations of the people.”
Also speaking in the same vein, the National Secretary of the Party Mr Dipo Olayoku said that he 9th NEC is in line with the party’s constitution.
He stated that they are to look at the party’s shortcomings and draw the roadmap for the journey ahead.
He said; “Since the last NEC meeting, a lot of water has passed through the bridge. The party participated in the recent bye-elecitions. We won seats in Kano but were edged out.
“We are ready for the Anambra State gubernatorial election. We are ready for the FCT council election. We ‘ve submitted our candidates name for the six area council elections.
“The party is being restructured and repositioned for the challenges ahead” he said.
Legal. The party has no court order against the smooth running of the party under our chairman. However, the party is still in litigation against some expelled members of the party. Our relationship with INEC is cordial.
He also spoke on financial management saying that have never failed to submit their books to INEC for scrutiny as well as party administration saying that they will soon hold national convention to elect new leaders of the party.
He also warned some party members against anti-party activities noting that there are anti democratic forces on the rampage.

Declare state of emergency on insecurity, ex-APC chieftain tells Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

By Abdul-Ganiyy Akanbi,Abuja

A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Jackson Lekan Ojo, has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare State of Emergency in the entire Northern states due to the recurrence of the activities of bandits and terrorists, saying “enough is enough.”

In a message sent to President Tinubu through his Facebook page, Ojo, who is a certified security expert, said Nigeria is becoming a laughing stock in the comity of nations because of the failure of the government to protect its citizens from brazen attacks by bandits.

He, however, gave a caveat that the state of emergency in the North he is advocating for should not affect democratic institutions in the affected states.

“I am lending my voice to the request by the Northern Elders Forum last week that Mr. President should declare State of Emergency in the entire Northern Nigeria.

“I think it is high time this is done. You heard what the governor of Borno State has just announced about the number of people that were slaughtered in the last two days. This is unacceptable.

“I think it is time for Mr. President to militarise the entire Northern Nigeria to smoke out all these bandits and snuff out life out of them.

“Enough is enough. No matter the sponsors, no matter the backers, no matter the informants, these people can not be greater than the Nigerian government.

“Mr. President should over-police the entire Northern Nigeria. We should smoke out these people (bandits) and send them back to their creator.

“Enough is enough. Enough of other countries turning Nigeria into a laughing stock. Mr. President should hack to this clarion call.

“Mr. President can declare the State of Emergency on insecurity without anything that will affect the Democratic institutions in Northern Nigeria.

“We can not take this again. Enough is enough.”

“God bless Mr President, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and God bless Nigerians.”

ADC To Police, FG: Leave Our Leaders Alone, Face the Bandits — Says Police Harassment of El-Rufai, Attack on Malami Are Dangerous Signs for democracy

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed grave concern over the increasing use of law enforcement agencies to harass and intimidate opposition leaders, while criminal violence continues to devastate communities across the country. The party condemned the politically motivated police summons issued to former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, as well as the shocking attack on the former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami’s convoy in Kebbi State, which left many party members injured and terrified.

ADC Publicity Secretary, Bolaji-Abdullahi

In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC,on Friday, the party described these developments as an assault not just on individual politicians, but on Nigeria’s democracy itself. It warned that the Nigeria Police Force has seemingly become a willing tool of political suppression for the federal government rather than a national security department, that is truly focused on rooting out bandits and other criminals across the country.

The full statement reads:

“At a time when terrorists and criminal gangs freely operate in large parts of the North, the Nigerian Police appears more interested in silencing opposition leaders than protecting citizens. After the recent attack in Kaduna, where the former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and other ADC leaders were attacked; in Kebbi, the convoy of former Minister for Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) was violently attacked in broad daylight around the GRA area of Birnin Kebbi—barely meters from a police outpost. Despite the seriousness of the attack, no arrests have been made, and the perpetrators remain at large.

“This growing trend is disturbing — and all Nigerians should take note. In Kaduna, the police reportedly looked away as thugs—armed with stones and cutlasses—attacked a peaceful ADC gathering. Instead of arresting those responsible, the police are now targeting the victims with summons.

“Every hour spent harassing El-Rufai and shutting down ADC offices is an hour not spent confronting the terrorists and criminals destroying lives across the North, and the urban bandits destroying the nation.”

“To make matters worse, police authorities in Kaduna sealed off the ADC party offices ahead of a planned meeting of zonal leaders—a deliberate attempt to stifle our constitutional right to assemble and organize.”

Continuing, “The ADC wishes to place this on record: These acts by the police are not isolated. They represent a systematic attempt to criminalize opposition politics, especially in states where the ruling party feels threatened by the growing influence of the ADC.

“In this regard, the ADC calls on the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police to immediately withdraw the politically motivated summons issued to Nasir El-Rufai and other ADC leaders in Kaduna State. These invitations are not about justice or security, they are about silencing dissent and should therefore be halted without delay.

“We demand that the police authorities unseal the ADC office in Kaduna State, and stop the illegal obstruction of lawful political activity. No democracy can thrive where opposition party structures are routinely shut down under vague pretexts.”

The statement added,”The Nigeria Police must also publish the names of those who filed complaints that triggered these recent investigations and summons. The public deserves to know who is behind these attacks on political freedom, and what interests they serve.

“We further demand that security agencies arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack on Abubakar Malami’s convoy in Kebbi State, as well as the violent thugs who disrupted our stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna. The failure to bring these perpetrators to justice only emboldens further violence.

“In addition, we call for an internal disciplinary process within the police to investigate officers who were present during these incidents but failed to act. Those who stood by and allowed political violence to occur should not be wearing the uniform of the Nigerian state.

“Finally, we urge the Federal Government to redirect the focus of the Nigeria Police toward their primary duty—protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians— instead of being used as a tool of political manipulation.

“Our party will stand with our leaders and members. We will not be intimidated.”

‎A’Ibom Extractive Justice Alliance demands Gas flaring accountability, community justice, reversal of executive order 9 ‎- says failure of compliance will attract stiff protest ‎By Emmanuel Ikpe, Uyo ‎ ‎Coalition of civil society organizations, youth groups, community advocates, academic scholars and media in Akwa Ibom have petitioned the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission to address cases where corporate organizations are profiting from Gas flaring and pollution while host communities bear the cost. ‎ ‎Addressing journalists just after a peaceful demonstration and presentation of the petition letter to representative of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission in Eket, Eket LGA on Friday by Network Advancement Program for Poverty and Disaster Risk Reward,Helen Bassey Eyo, the coalition which was convened by Clement Isong Foundation with support from Actionaid Nigeria under the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) II, says the exercise was part of activities to commemorate the 2026 World Environmental Day with a call to end gas flaring, defend rights and build future. ‎ ‎According to them, Gas flaring penalties exceeding $10.4 million dollars became payable on OML 13 alone between 2021 and 2023. They therefore called for accountability of $270 million dollars in outstanding penalties owed to host communities from 2021 to 2025. “nationally, oil companies paid $646 million dollars in Gas flare penalties in 2025, the highest in five years, yet Nigeria flared 301.3 million scf of Gas in 2024, up from 278.3 million in 2023, and did not meet its 2025 zero-flare target”. ‎ ‎The Akwa Ibom Extractive Justice Alliance noted that in communities like Ikot Town, Elekpon and Atabrikang in Eastern Obolo LGA of the State Gas has been burning continuously since NEPL/NOL began production on OML 13 in May 2024. Eight villages in Eastern Obolo have no electricity yet OML 13 holds over five trillion cubic feet of Gas. The energy being burned over these communities could instead be used to power them. ‎ ‎Speaking to newsmen, the Director, Clement Isong Foundation, convener of Akwa Ibom Extractive Justice Alliance on behalf of the 15 CSOs including academia, media, women and youths groups noted that in Ibeno LGA of the State, Network Exploration and Production Limited continues to flare gas at Mkpanak with documented impact on air, water and soil across Ibeno, Onna, Eket and Esit Eket. “rain water in Ibeno is no longer consumable, Itakabasi community has been lost to coastal erosion accelerated by environmental degradation. Seplat Energy which acquired Mobil Production Nigeria Unlimited from ExxonMobil in December 2024, now operates OMLs 67, 68, 68 and 104 in Akwa Ibom, inheriting an operational history that includes over fifty years of environmental liabilities that coastal communities are still waiting to see them addressed”, they added. ‎ ‎Accordingly, the alliance have asked President Tinubu to reverse the presidential executive order 9 of February 13, 2026 which suspended all Gas flare penalties remittance into the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund and and redirected them to the Federation Account. “the Order 9 has remove a financing mechanism established under the PIA 2021 specifically to support environmental remediation and community development in host communities. AKEJA is calling for this to be reversed and for the original framework to be restored”. ‎ ‎Meanwhile, the Civil Society Organizations have stated that if their demands are not met as at when due, they will pull out all their members to protest to the office the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission with stiff penalties to ensure their plights are giving desire attention. ‎ ‎ ‎
