Alhaji Mohammed Ndarani (SAN)

By Uthman-Baba Naseer,Minna
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Alhaji Mohammed Ndarani, has urged Nupe women in the film and music industry to consciously and deliberately use their talents to promote culture and traditions.

The legal luminary enjoined the artists to deploy their skills as tools for cultural preservation, moral re-orientation and positive societal transformation.

Ndarani who is also the Hukunchi Nupe and Hausaland gave the task on Sunday in Bida while delivering a keynote address as Guest Speaker at the “Women in Nupe Film and Music Sensitisation Programme”, organised by the National Nupe Films and Musical Makers Association (NUPEWOOD).

He described film and music as powerful instruments for education, orientation and identity projection, noting that when properly harnessed, they shape values, influence attitudes and promote the cultural image of a people beyond their immediate environment.

The Senior Legal Practitioner commended NUPEWOOD for its sustained efforts at promoting the Nupe language, culture, film and music, describing the initiative as timely, noble and deserving of support from all stakeholders.

According to him, the focus on women is particularly significant, as women remained the backbone of society, serving as first teachers, nurturers of values and custodians of culture.

Ndarani stressed that women must not only be participants but leaders and role models in the Nupe creative industry, urging them to use film and music to promote education, peace, unity, cultural pride and moral discipline, while avoiding content that undermines societal values and religious principles.

He said the sensitisation programme provided a platform to reposition Nupe women as cultural ambassadors, agents of positive change and contributors to economic growth within their communities.

The senior lawyer reaffirmed his commitment to education, youth empowerment and cultural preservation, warning that societies that neglect their culture and sideline women risk losing their identity and future.

He called on NUPEWOOD, government agencies, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to support the industry through training, funding, mentorship and enabling policies to enhance its competitiveness nationally and internationally.

Ndarani also urged the practitioners to remain disciplined, united, creative and law-abiding, while calling on Nupe musicians to uphold the rule of law and comply with Nigeria’s copyright regulations.

To further encourage the industry, Ndarani announced a donation of N1 million to the Nupe film sector, describing the gesture as part of his support for professionalism, value-driven creativity and the overall growth of the industry.

He cautioned that content produced through film and music reflects not only on individuals but on the image of the entire Nupe nation.

While appreciating the organisers and participants, Ndarani prayed for the success of the programme, the strengthening of NUPEWOOD and continued growth of Nupe culture in the country and at the global stage.

Senate orders rehabilitation of 74 federal roads, seeks FERMA budget boost ….As it embarks on annual recess

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio

By George Mgbeleke

The Senate on Thursday passed a resolution demanding increased funding for the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, and ordered emergency rehabilitation of critical federal roads nationwide.

This followed consideration of the report of the Joint Senate Committees on FERMA and National Security and Intelligence on the Onyagede-Ogobia road off the Otukpo-Oweto highway in Ohimini Local Government Area of State.

Presenting the report, Chairman of the Joint Committee, Senator Abubakar Abdullahi (APC Kebbi North), said only 2km of the 28km road was still motorable after inspection.

He said severe structural failure, erosion and poor drainage had made most sections impassable, disrupting transportation, economic activities, healthcare access, education and security operations in the area.

The committee recommended immediate emergency rehabilitation of the road pending full reconstruction at an estimated cost of N15.06 billion, calling for improved drainage, erosion control and stronger security presence.

To address connectivity gaps nationwide, the Senate adopted the recommendation to rehabilitate two critical federal roads in each of the 36 states and the FCT, totalling 74 roads targeted for intervention.

Senators from Kogi, Lagos and Bayelsa States backed the report and urged prompt action on failed federal roads in their states.

Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (PDP Benue South) however cautioned colleagues to limit debate to the committee’s report and file separate motions for roads in their constituencies.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC Edo North), urged the Federal Ministry of Works to prioritise maintenance of existing highways over new construction.

“The federal ministry of works must be properly guided. While many existing federal roads have deteriorated beyond acceptable standards, attention is being shifted to constructing new roads,” he said.

Oshiomhole described the Benin-Asaba, Benin-Warri and Auchi-Abuja highways as strategic national corridors needing urgent intervention. He said sustained maintenance was key to national security, economic growth and movement of goods and agricultural produce.

The Senate adopted all committee recommendations, including periodic legislative oversight and increased budgetary allocation for FERMA.

It also commended President Bola Tinubu for ongoing projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Badagry-Sokoto Highway, describing them as transformative.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed that copies of the report be sent to relevant ministries, FERMA and appropriation committees for implementation and budget consideration.

Meanwhile, the Red Chamber has embarked on its annual recess and adjourned sitting to Sept.15,2026.

Gbajabiamila’s charge to Hon. Leke Abejide,an endorsement of a robust, multi-party democracy–Sunny-Goli

Published

By

Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila

By David Owei

Former Member of the Federal House of Representative, RT.Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli has described as ” opposition failed attempts to score political point” the recent criticism following comments made by the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, during the 50th birthday celebration of the wife of Hon. Leke Abejide.

According to Sunny Goli, despite the cry by some members of the opposition, the Chief of Staff’s message was one of steadfastness and encouraging a high-performing lawmaker to maintain the integrity of the platform he has toiled to build and to resist external interference.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, during the 50th birthday celebration of the wife of Hon. Leke Abejide had urged Hon. Abejide—the sole elected member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the National Assembly—to remain steadfast within his party and charged him to fight and scatter those against him.

Gbajabiamila also encouraged him to fight and hold unto his party as he claimed the Presidency like what he is doing within the ADC and the comment sparked criticism.

But Rt. Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, who is a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and a leading Senatorial Aspirant in Bayelsà State, stated in a statement on Tuesday that while critics have attempted to frame these comments as a move to fuel acrimony within the opposition or as an overreach into partisan politics, it is essential to provide a clear and objective context to this exchange.

He said “Politics, by its very nature, is a game of deft maneuvering with the primary objective of attaining and sustaining power. It is not the obligation of any political leader, regardless of their position, to manage the internal affairs or resolve the internal friction of opposing parties.”

“It is, therefore, unrealistic to expect the President’s Chief of Staff to invite divergent interests within the ADC—or any other party—to a roundtable for amicable resolution.”

“Rather than pillorying Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila for his remarks, they should be viewed as a rallying cry for political resilience.”

,” By encouraging Hon. Abejide to “hold on” to his party, the Chief of Staff was advocating for the protection of smaller party structures against hostile takeovers by political interlopers.”

” In an era where smaller parties face the existential threat of being subsumed by larger entities, this charge serves as an endorsement of a robust, multi-party democracy.”

“The attempt by certain interests to sensationalise this innocuous statement is a transparent effort to score cheap political points.”

“The Chief of Staff’s message was one of steadfastness: encouraging a high-performing lawmaker to maintain the integrity of the platform he has toiled to build and to resist external interference.”

“I implore the public and political commentators to look beyond the “hullabaloo” and recognise the statement for what it truly is: an acknowledgment of political tenacity and a call for leaders to remain loyal to their mandates and party structures.”

OBYC Worldwide fault Ineife led IYC over planned protest against Bayelsà Industrialist. ….urges IYC to respect for Court Process The Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council (OBYC) Worldwide has condemned the planned protest over the legal dispute involving Azikel Group President, Dr. Azibapu Godbless Eruani, CFR, and Mr. Kariyai Daukoru, describing the action as unnecessary while the matter remains before a competent court. OBYC, in a statement issued on Saturday and made available to newsmen, urged Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone Chairman, Comrade Peres Ineife, to suspend the proposed protest and allow the judicial process to run its course. It also appealed to the newly elected IYC Worldwide President, Dr. Doubra Collins Okotete, to promote dialogue and reconciliation among the parties involved in the Aviation Training initiative. OBYC maintained that Dr. Eruani’s aviation training initiative was a philanthropic programme designed to empower Bayelsa youths and rejected allegations that he intended to victimise anyone. The Council further called on Ijaw youths, political leaders and stakeholders to exercise restraint, respect the rule of law, and avoid actions capable of undermining the judiciary or disrupting peace.
