HURIWA Raises Alarm Over Tinubu’s Alleged 40,000 China-Made Campaign Tablets, Challenges INEC, EFCC, ICPC

By George Mgbeleke
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) raises the alarm over reports that President Bola Tinubu’s campaign machinery is producing 40,000 customised tablets in China for political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

HURIWA in a statement by national coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Nnadozie Onwubiko, described the development as a disturbing indication of the growing influence of money and material inducements in Nigeria’s electoral politics, particularly at a time when millions of citizens struggle with economic hardship and the Federal Government continues to rely on borrowing to finance public expenditure.

The association demands immediate answers: Who is paying for these 40,000 tablets? How much will their production and distribution cost? Is the money coming from private political donors or public resources? Who authorised the project, and who will account for the expenditure?
HURIWA says the reported tablets will reportedly carry campaign messages in English, Yoruba and Hausa before distribution among supporters. It questions why a political campaign requires such an expensive mobilisation project and challenges those behind it to disclose the financial arrangements.
The association warns that Nigerians cannot afford another election in which financial muscle, expensive gifts, vehicles and material inducements overshadow public policy, accountability and genuine democratic competition.
HURIWA particularly condemns the apparent contradiction between the reported capacity to finance tens of thousands of campaign devices and the government’s repeated resort to borrowing to meet national obligations.
The association asks whether the administration has sufficient resources for elaborate political mobilisation but must borrow to address the country’s pressing developmental needs.
HURIWA insists that no public official or political organisation should use taxpayers’ money to finance partisan campaigns. It demands a transparent investigation if credible evidence emerges that public funds, government facilities or state resources support the reported project.
The association also turns its attention to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral umpire of failing to demonstrate the urgency required to police campaign spending ahead of the 2027 elections.
HURIWA asks when INEC intends to publish its campaign expenditure monitoring framework, deploy its monitoring mechanisms and begin tracking the financial activities of political parties and candidates.
The association says INEC cannot wait until after the elections before asking questions about campaign expenditure. It must establish clear monitoring procedures, demand financial disclosures and enforce the statutory spending limits before political actors overwhelm the electoral process with money.
HURIWA further challenges the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to explain their apparent silence over reports of extravagant political spending and alleged voter inducement.
The association demands that both agencies examine credible evidence concerning the sources of campaign funds, the procurement of expensive campaign materials and any possible diversion of public resources.
HURIWA warns that distributing expensive gifts or other benefits to influence voters could constitute electoral malpractice, depending on the circumstances. It therefore urges INEC and law enforcement agencies to investigate any credible evidence of vote buying or unlawful inducement.
The association stresses that the 2027 presidential election must not become an auction in which the highest spender determines the political future of millions of Nigerians.
HURIWA says the reported production of 40,000 tablets raises questions that the APC and the Tinubu campaign organisation must answer publicly. Nigerians deserve to know whether the project is privately funded, how much it costs and whether its financing complies with electoral and financial regulations.
The association demands immediate public disclosure and insists that political power must never become a licence to deploy public resources for partisan advantage.
Nigeria is not a private estate, public funds are not campaign war chests, and INEC must not surrender its constitutional responsibility to powerful political interests.

Deputy President of Senate, Barau Jibrin

By Our Correspondent

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge victorious in the January 16, 2027, presidential election, citing assessments by political analysts and the prevailing political situation in the country.

Senator Barau stated this at the weekend during the inauguration of campaign committees for Dawakin Tofa, Tofa and Rimin Gado Local Government Areas of Kano State, where he charged party members to work collectively towards securing victory for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy President of the Senate said the foundation laid by President Tinubu during his first term would, by the grace of Allah, yield the desired results in his second term.

He expressed appreciation to party leaders, elected representatives, local government chairmen, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other stakeholders for their support and commitment to the APC, assuring them that the unity and cooperation currently enjoyed by the party would be sustained.

“Based on the assessments of political analysts and the current state of Nigerian politics, all indications suggest that, by Allah’s grace, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the presidential election,” he said.

He noted that Kano, being one of the largest states in the country and second only to Lagos in terms of the latest registered voters, deserved greater attention and opportunities from the Federal Government.

According to him, the Governor’s decision to lead the people from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the APC was a strategic move that have enhanced Kano’s political relevance and improved its access to developmental opportunities.

The Deputy President of the Senate expressed confidence that the political unity achieved in Kano would translate into tangible benefits for the people, particularly with the alignment of councillors, local government chairmen, state legislators, members of the National Assembly and the Governor under the APC.

He added that the coming elections would usher in a new phase of political and developmental activities, with elected representatives expected to contribute meaningfully to the development of their respective constituencies.

Senator Barau explained that the campaign committees were carefully constituted to accommodate party leaders, members of the party’s executive committees, former and serving legislators, councillors, local government chairmen, new party members and respected elders.

He urged members of the committees to take their responsibilities seriously and mobilise effectively for the APC ahead of the elections.

“What is required of you is to play your part actively in securing victory. Mobilise, campaign and ensure that all APC candidates emerge victoriously from top to bottom. May Allah grant us success and enable us to achieve our goals,” he said.

2027: Diri in secret alliance with Makinde- PDP

By David Owei, Yenagoa

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP) has insisted that the Bayelsa State governor is not backing the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.

The Chairman of the party, George Alabh Turnah, who had earlier made the claim, was attacked by the All Progressives Congress APC) leadership for lying.

However, the publicity secretary of the party, Ikaebimo Mark, had doubled down on the claims, revealing more information linking Diri with the presidential ambition of his friend, Oyo State governor and presidential candidate of Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde

Mark, who maintained that Diri and the leadership of APC in the state are not supporting the 2027 re-election ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stated that, on the contrary, Governor Diri is engaged in anti-party activities that work against the interests of the President and the APC.

According to him, Diri’s government is paying monthly stipends to thousands of former PDP officials, from ward to state levels, belonging to the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki group.

He stated that it is common knowledge that these individuals, led by Turaki, are openly allied with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and are mobilising support for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

The party further described the Diri administration as a complete failure, adding that no one who has witnessed the widespread poverty, hunger, hardship and underdevelopment in Bayelsa State under Governor Douye Diri can remain silent.

The PDP demanded answers from the Diri’s government over issues of public spending and the collapse of the economy in Bayelsa State.

‘’Critical questions about public spending, healthcare, education, infrastructure and the management of state assets require clear, verifiable answers. These are matters of public interest, not private quarrels. The government run by the APC should respond with facts and figures, not insults directed at the messenger. Bayelsans deserve transparency, accountability and responsible leadership.’’

‘’The PDP calls on the people of Bayelsa State to carefully examine the performance, records and capacity of every candidate seeking their votes in 2027. They should be prepared to reject incompetent APC candidates in the National and State House of Assembly elections.’’

Meanwhile, the APC State Chairman, Hon Warman Weri Ogoriba, has described PDP’s allegations as laughable and untrue.

According to him, Turnah as being Chairman of the factional PDP needs mental examination for his assertion which are lies.
