2027: APC Will Sweep Senate, Reps, Assembly Seats, Governorship in Abia -Kalu Vows …As APC Supporters, purchase Gov.Form,Beg Deputy Speaker to Run
By Our Correspondent
As preparation for 2027 election heats up, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon.Benjamin Okezie Kalu has expressed strong optimism that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the Abia State governorship and sweep the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats in the 2027 general elections.
Kalu made this declaration on Saturday in Abuja as APC stakeholders from Abia State purchased and formally presented him with the Expression of Interest and Governorship Nomination Forms, pleading with him to run for governor of Abia State.
Speaking after receiving the forms, Kalu assured the stakeholders that the APC would deliver victory across board.
He said: “I want to thank you for bringing this form and I want to assure that at the end of the day, the story must change in Abia State, and we will work with the party to make sure that that happens. I have said it time and again, it has never happened before that the political party has received so much interest from those who want to lead: from House of Assembly to the House of Representatives to the Senate to governorship. It means that gradually, people are beginning to understand what APC stands for.
“We will not allow this dream to die. We will fight till the end. We will win the House of Assembly positions. We will win House of Representatives. We will sweep the Senate seats and win the governorship. We will win for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Kalu however said that his formal response to the call will come soon, stressing that delivering massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection remains his priority.
“The most important thing for me is to make sure that this man who has come as a reformer, who has come to leave legacies, that it is seen visibly, that our people of the South East, starting from Abia State are standing solidly behind him. Every other thing to me is secondary”, he said.
Earlier in their separate remarks before the presentation of the forms, three APC stakeholders who represented Abia North Senatorial District, Abia Central and Abia South lauded Kalu’s legislative record at the National Assembly, leadership and developmental strides, saying they want it replicated in Abia.
Chief James Uko Igwe, SAN, who spoke for Abia North, said with Kalu’s track record, there is no better time to plead with him to run for Abia governor than now.
“Your contributions as Deputy Speaker have been outstanding. You have been a statesman, galvanizing efforts in Abia State. I inspected projects across our constituency last year. There is no better time than now for you to bring that spirit of statesmanship, unity, and consensus-building to the state level. That indelible mark that you have made at the national level, we want those marks to be made in Abia State. There is no better time than now.
“Accordingly, as professionals, we knew that all you have done is to work for the people. You are not thinking about yourself, not about your pocket, and then we felt that we are in a position to obtain the nomination form for the gubernatorial election of our party, for the APC to contest the election in Abia State. And we proceeded, and amongst ourselves, we have brought this form to present to Your Excellency”, he said.
Similarly, Major General Jack Nwaogbu, (Rtd) who spoke for Abia Central said that Kalu through his efforts revived APC in Abia State.
“In the past seven months, there has been a very huge rejuvenation of the party as a result of the party being given back to those who own it, the masses, and that was made possible by His Excellency and other people, the good hearted and good minded party leaders in Abia State. So, I have a strong belief that the person who has been able to unite other politicians, the person who has been able to make this possible, it’s only good that that person takes up the mantle of governance in Abia State and push forward the good governance and dividends of democracy that we so much desire in Abia State. It is on this note that I identified myself with this group, and I so wholly support the idea that our Deputy Speaker should please consider and accept our request for the governorship”, Nwaogbu said.
On his part, the former Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike who spoke on behalf of Abia South said the Deputy Speaker has proven his capacity through tangible impact, adding APC needs a frontline leadership that can mobilize and enhance the fortunes of Abia State.
“Your Excellency, you have brought developments. You have generated employment. You have attracted appointments. You have empowered and positioned people. And we feel, Sir, you are the best thing that will happen to our party as APC, because we know that in 2023, our State, and indeed entire south east, gave very low votes to the President. And even in such situation, the President has continued to patronize our people, but we are afraid that if in 2027, we are not able to join other Nigerians to deliver substantial votes for the President, he might not be as kind and generous as he has been within this period.
“So we feel duty bound to have a leader that will lead from the front into this battle and ensure that seamlessly, we generate massive votes for His Excellency, the President in his election, and ensure too, that we give him lieutenants that will work for him at the federal level and at all levels. And we are convinced, Sir, that it is only the leadership of Rt. Hon. Benjamin that can deliver that in Abia State as of today”, Azubuike said.

APC Abolishes Consensus: Announces Direct Primaries Across Nigeria for 2026 Polls
By Our Correspondent
As 2027 polls draws close, the rulling Progressives Congress (APC) has formally adopted direct primary elections across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),shutting the door on consensus candidacy.
The party made the announcement in a formal notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its members nationwide.
APC leadership said the decision reflects its commitment to transparency and internal democracy.
“There will be no room for consensus candidacy,” the party stated, signaling an end to arrangements where candidates emerged through negotiations among party leaders and stakeholders. The move shifts selection power directly to registered members.
According to the timetable released, the primaries will run for nine days in May 2026, covering all elective positions from presidential to state assembly seats. The schedule is designed to ensure a structured and orderly process across the country.
The exercise begins with Presidential Primaries on May 15–16, 2026. The two-day window will determine who flies the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections, with all card-carrying members eligible to vote.
House of Representatives Primaries are scheduled for May 18, 2026. Members in each of the 360 federal constituencies will cast votes directly to choose their candidates, bypassing delegates.
Senate primaries will follow on May 20, 2026, covering all 109 senatorial districts. The party said the direct method is intended to broaden participation and reduce post-primary disputes.
State Houses of Assembly primaries are slated for May 21, 2026. The date will see members across 991 state constituencies participate in selecting candidates for their respective state legislatures.
Governorship primaries will conclude the process on May 23, 2026, in states where elections are due. The APC said the sequencing allows for adequate mobilisation and coordination with INEC and security agencies.
The party assured all aspirants of a level playing field throughout the exercise. “Every member will have the opportunity to participate directly,” the leadership stated, emphasising that the direct primary model is meant to reflect the true will of the party’s base ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party Supremacy Is Non – Negotiable’ Nembe – Sei Unity Forum Warns Against Name Dropping And Blackmail
By David Owei,Bayelsa
Arising from a high-level press conference held in Yenagoa, the Nembe-Sei Unity Forum (NUF) has called on aspirants jostling for the Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency Ticket in the APC, to stop name dropping as a ploy to deceive the public to gain public sympathy and endorsement.
During an interactive session with journalists, the Chairman of the Forum, Chief Ayebaibeinmo Ifamo, detailed what stands out among the shortlisted aspirants recommended by the Consensus Harmonization Committee—a committee established under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, the Leader of Bayelsa state.
The Forum called for justice and equity zoning, emphasized that the decision to cede the ticket to Ogbolomabiri is a matter of social justice. Historical records show that for nearly 25 years, whenever the seat has been zoned to Nembe, it has been held by brothers from the Bassambiri axis and therefore a son of Bassambiri or anyone from mini/Ikensi still under Bassambiri axis should not contest for the sake of fairness and equity and social justice for Ogbolomabiri.
> “For the sake of peace and unity, Bassambiri stakeholders have already ceded this turn to Ogbolomabiri. We caution aspirants like the former APC Chairman, **Dr. Dennis Otiotio**, to stop attempting to sideline these recommendations. To disregard the stakeholders is to disregard the foundation of the party’s peace in The region.”Respect for Party Supremacy
In a direct message to Dr. Otiotio, the Forum urged him to respect the party’s hierarchy.
> “We find it disappointing that a former Chairman, whose own authority was never undermined during his six-year tenure, would now seek to disregard constituted authority. He must wait for the rotation to return to Bassambiri and stop the attempts at arm-twisting the party leadership.”
They equally Warned Against “Governor’s Name” Deception
The NUF strongly cautioned Dr. Dennis Otiotio and Hon.gave Jonathan Obuebite against the dangerous trend of name-dropping. The group revealed that these aspirants been deceiving “gullible” party faithful by claiming they have received a “sole endorsement” from Governor Douye Diri.
> “Governor Diri is a man of transparency and integrity. He would never condone the subversion of a stakeholder-led process. These aspirants are resorting to name-dropping because they are **afraid of a direct primary**. They know that the grassroots and the stakeholders do not support their bid based on their previous dismal performances in public office.”
The Forum commended Governor Douye Diri for his fatherly role and for providing a level playing field through the Harmonization Committee. They expressed total confidence that the Governor will stand by the principles of fairness and equity by ratifying a candidate from Ogbolomabiri
The Nembe-Sei Unity Forum maintains that the APC needs a candidate who can win on merit, unity, and grassroots acceptance. An aspirant that embodies these qualities. The group warned that any attempt to impose a rejected candidate through Abuja-led influence or blackmail will be met with stiff resistance from the people of Nembe and Brass local government areas.
